Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum. Blue sapphire can be a pure blue but ranges from greenish blue to violetish blue. Sapphire has a remarkable hardness – 9 on the Mohs scale (the third hardest mineral, after diamond at 10 and moissanite at 9.5), which makes it very durable. Lab-grown sapphires have the same chemical and optical characteristics as mined sapphires and indistinguishable from them by not gem experts. Lab-grown gemstones are ethically sourced and do not case as much damage to the environment as mining.
Moissanite is a man made eco-friendly stone that is more brilliant than diamond and 1/10th the price. Moissanite exhibit more fire and brilliance than any other gemstone. On the Brilliance Refractive Index, Moissanite is more brilliant than diamonds, ranging from 2.65-2.69 on the scale. On the Mohs hardness scale, Moissanite comes in second only to a diamond, measuring at 9.25. Moissanite's durability is excellent, meaning it will survive daily wear and tear.
